Biewer Dog Breed Puppy Ads
AKA:
Breed Group: Terrier Group Height Male: Up to 8.5 inches (22 cm.)
Breed Size: Small Height Female: Up to 8.5 inches (22 cm.)
Breed Origin: Germany Weight: 7 pounds (3.1 kg.)
Appearance
General Appearance is that of an elegant longhaired tri colored toy terrier with the hair parting down the middle and hanging straight and evenly on both sides of the dog, as though a comb had been used to part the hair from the nose to the end of the body. The back is level, with height at shoulders being equal to height of the rump. Although the outline of the dog gives the appearance of a square, the body length can be slightly longer than the over all height. The tail is carried high over the body in a teacup handle fashion and covered with a long flowing plume. The Biewer has a lighthearted whimsical, child like attitude. Although mischievous at times, they are obedient and make a loyal companion.

Temperament
The Biewer seems oblivious of its small size. It is ever eager for adventure. This little dog is highly energetic, brave, loyal and clever. Affectionate with its master. It may also become a barker, as it tries to tell YOU what to do. It has true terrier heritage which needs someone who understand how to be it's leader. They are good with children of all ages that are taught proper behavior with animals. If treated poorly they become recluse and will start hiding when called.

They can also become over-protective. Biewers are easy to train, although they can sometimes be stubborn if owners do not give the dog proper boundaries. They can be difficult to housebreak. The Biewer is an excellent watchdog. When owners display pack leadership to the Biewer, they are very sweet and loving and can be trusted with children. The problems only arise when owners, because of the dogs cute little size, allow them to take over the house. The human will not even realize it, however know, if you have any of the negative behaviors listed above, it's time to look into your pack leader skills. These are truly sweet little dogs who need owners who understand how to give them gentle leadership. If you own a Biewer who does not display any of the negative behaviors, high five for being a good pack leader!

History
With the introduction of the Biewer to America in 2003, there has been much speculation about its heritage. Mr. and Mrs. Biewer had been raising and showing Yorkies for 20 years, when on January 20th, 1984 the first blue, white and gold Biewer named Schneeflocken von Friedheck was born. This was the start of what is known as the Biewer Breed. Mr. Biewer spent 5 years selectively breeding his dogs until he was able to establish and breed true to a standard uniquely the Biewer Breed. The dogs were then registered as Biewer Yorkshire Terrier a la Pom Pon. In 1989 when Mr. Biewer signed the standard for this wonderful new breed, it was that of the Yorkshire Terrier with the coloring being White-Blue-Gold. Mr. Biewer was not a man of many words, so the standard was short and brief.

Health
The life expectancy of the Biewer is around 12-15 years. There are only certain lines that have displayed liver problems. Luxating patellas is not really a problem in this breed. We have been amazed at the strength in the legs compared to the Yorkies. I haven't heard of any sensitivity to chemical and drugs either. He does not fare well in cold weather and should be provided with a jumper if out and about in the rain or cold. He must also be protected from rough handling and heavy object because of his size and fragility. The parents of the Biewer puppy should have OFA certificates and acid-bile testing is recommended on breeding dogs.
